The terms anti-Polish sentiment, Polonophobia, anti-Polonism, and Antipolonism refer to the hostile views of ethnic Poles, Poland, and Polish culture.
Poland is such a beautiful country. Polish people are even more remarkable. With Poland having such a tragic history with them suffering so much this is surprising. It shows the strength of their character and culture that Poland is now a magical place.
The media, internet and the written word have not and continues on times to be unkind to Poles and Poland. Poles often have felt helpless in the face of the anti-Polish campaign involving slanders and lies starting before World War Two and continue to this day. Sadly, some of those fighting it are wasting their time due to their poor tactics.
This project was launched in April 2018. We glad to be able to use data and material with permission from German Camps, Polish Victims (Founded: 2010), and Anti Polish Monitor (Founded: 2012). Over time, we will build a collective work on all forms of anti-Polonism and tools to fight it.
You will not find on this website claims that stereotypes of Poles as brutes, anti-Semitics, homophobia, and similar has played a crucial role in the spread of anti-Polish sentiment in recent times. Are we to believe that modern people are so racist as to consider ethnic Poles as thuggish, nationalistic, anti-Semitic brutes? Rather than waste time on this, it would be better to write about the fantastic people, country, and culture that make up Poland.
Instead, the focus is on Poles and Polish history in the “printed” word and web writing. Currently, this site concentrates on coverage of the Nazi Camps in German-occupied Poland. Usage of terms implying they were Polish is offensive and incorrect[6]. There should be no debate about this. Those that are spreading lies about Poles and Poland should not be allowed to hide their objectives. Those that are ignorant of the truth about the Nazi death camps must be educated. Part of the reason for the dislike of Poles is the placement of Nazi death camps in Poland.
Racism is not yet a historical study. It is excellent that increasingly these views are repudiated. Sadly, Antipolonism continues to be acceptable. Challenging journalism and other writers is one way to fight this. You may ask how a Business Intelligence consultant can be a journalist or have knowledge about their work? Well, computing personnel have joined journalists[9]. We are skilled at capturing data and turning it into useful information. Even unstructured data such as audio and photos are an essential part of this project once formatted.
I have used my computing skills with the help of experts in news media, performing arts and linguist to produce a new look at the coverage Poles and Poland in the written word.
Hatred ultimately drives us apart. Those fighting for good must ensure they keep compassion in their hearts to avoid becoming what they fight.
We must emphasis this is not an attempt to whitewash Polish history. It is our goal by studying in details thousands of pieces of data to see if there is any bias. The material on this website is to promote the truth about ethnic Poles and Poland and should not be used by those spreading violence and bigotry against others.
The fear of the unknown is common in the animal kingdom. Therefore, it is not surprising that bigotry exists now and has existed since before the birth of civilization. It has taken many forms over the centuries
Ethnic discrimination is a slightly newer form of bigotry. Still, it has sadly a history going back hundreds of years. In the so-called birthplace of democracy, the noted philosopher Aristotle believed that the Greeks were by their nature meant to be free. The rest, or barbarians as he saw them, was by their nature meant to be slaves.
The goal is to document discrimination against Poles and Poland. The definition is treating Poland and Poles atypically, disparagingly, unfairly, antagonistically, or unequally. It does not matter if it is accidental misinformation, poorly researched data, and outright hostile propaganda. Examples include: incorrectly ascribing complicity or collaboration to Poles for the crimes of Germany and Russia including pogroms and genocides against Jews; Polish jokes; omitting or mischaracterizing the contribution of Poles and Poland in history; that Poles are drunks or stupid.
Those who express anti-Polish prejudice commonly defend themselves by arguing that ethnic Poles themselves are in denial or simply anti-Semites or spreading lies against Russia. Some people claim their wording is right, but the usage of half-truths and information supporting biased views can only confuse the average person. Falsehoods in all forms are wrong, especially those designed to spread lies. The media may argue it is merely putting forth the other side, but it should keep to the truth.
If you feel helpless to counter anti-Polish material, we can say as the team behind this project with over 4,000 issues corrected. Poles and allies must work together using in part the tools on the website to help stop it.
